This weekend I painted with one of my brightest polishes: Orly Glowstick. Neons are very popular this season, even more so than in summers past, making this the perfect time to pick up a few new fun, bright polishes.
Here’s a little trick for max opacity: begin with one coat of white (I recommend Zoya Purity) instead of starting with your neon. The white polish provides an even, bright base for your color application. For this mani, I only used ONE coat of Glowstick, on top of Purity. To achieve a similar look sans the white, you’d need about four coats. That gets messy and would take eons to dry.
And just for extra sparkle, I threw on some OPI Servin’ Up Sparkle on top. You know me and my glitter.
Nail color is a great way to ease into the neon trend, offering a punchy yet subtle pop of color. Aren’t sure you can do it? Keep the rest of your outfit simple, working with neutrals and basics such as tailored khaki capris and a cobalt or black tee. Go another step and throw on a super skinny neon patent belt, or a statement necklace. Don’t forget your toes, either. A neon pedicure is fabulous for poolside.
More on working with neon in a future post, I have a few outfit ideas that I’d love to share with you.
Until next time. Work that neon, ladies.
xoxo, Emma

I must try your trick of using the white underneath
Thanks, Tara!
